Battle Creek Beauty

Looking down into the canyon from the perch of the falls

Both Ann and I were dying to get out of the house today. It was a beautiful day and also a bit chilly. So we bundled up and headed to nearby Battle Creek Canyon for about an hour of hiking.

Since we are at the very beginning of Spring, the trail was mostly barren but beginning to shows signs of what would be beautiful explosion of Spring foliage and color.

We hiked up to the falls, took some pix and then jogged most of the way back down. While the colors were mostly tame, I was really happy with the pictures today. I really liked the ones of Ann. Her outfit stood out from the monochromatic remnants of winter.

The 2 videos below were taken at the base of the falls. The water flow was strong, but was not at peak Spring melt levels.

All along the trail on both sides, there are endless rocks, formations, and strata that show years of growth and movement. There are also some pretty tall ans sheer cliffs at much higher altitudes. You can get a glimpse of that in the middle picture below.
