On May 1 of each year, Squaw Peak Road is opened back up for car travel. There are several trails that I have wanted to hike starting at the overlook. So, this morning I headed up to the overlook and was able to convince Ann to join me.

We had the choice of two trails from the overlook area. The first is called the Squaw Peak Overlook Trail and the other is called the Squaw Peak Overlook Back Trail. We chose the back trail, which is in blue on the map.

There was a few area of moderate climb, nothing too hard. There were several really nice clearings along the path that would be great for camping. The photo above shows one of them. The photo below shows that same clearing, but looking down path.

The landscape views were amazing at just about every point of the hike. I loved being able to see behind the mountain view that I literally look at everyday from my front yard. The goods news is there is so much more to explore here. We only had a short window today. But I assure you we will be going back soon and often.
I noticed by looking at the map in AllTrails, that the two trails we chose from today, connect about 2.2 miles from the overlook. I am hoping this week to make the entire loop comprised of both trails.
The rest of the post is just going to be images from the day.

These were everywhere on the hike This flower is smaller than a quarter
