In Feb 2016 I took a snowy hike that started at Tibble Fork in American Fork Canyon. I hiked up a mountain road that was shut down for the season. I climbed to Silver Lake Flats on that day. But I soon found out that there was more. Silver Lake Flats was NOT Silver Lake. Since that day, I have wanted to hike to Silver Lake.
Well, today was the day!
We started the hike at Silver Lake Flats, which is now a very nice and popular recreation area. The Silver Lake trail head is located at the north side of the flats. The trail is a 4.7 mile hike (out and back) with an elevation gain of about 1,600 feet.

The trail itself is fantastic. There are sections that are simply magical. Birds chirping, Aspen leaves ruffling, waterfalls churning and the greens and flowers and views are quite nice.

One of the best things that happened along the trail was finding this furry friend below. He was friendly and to concerned with us watching him. This first video was shot by Ann.
When we reached the top of our hike and looked out over the lake, we were blown away with the beauty. It was definitely worth the hike. There were about 30 or 40 people scattered aroiund the lake.

Ann and I planned to enjoy a picnic lunch once we arrived. We were starving and totally enjoy the peanut butter and honey sandwiches and some fresh fruit. It was fantastic!

On the way back down today Ann and I were jogging on certain sections. Well, I sprained my ankle and had to hobble in for the last 1.5 miles or so. It was not fun.

Even with the injury, this was clearly one of the best hikes of the season.
