An Unexpected Memoir

I was thrilled to find an old memory as I have been going through my digital files. A couple days ago, I came across the CD rom ISO files for a theatrical play in which I performed over a summer in the mid 80s. The show was Neil Simon’s Brighton Beach Memoirs.

I was a student at the University of Oklahoma (BOOMER SOONER!) in the B.S. program for Computer Science. I believe it was the summer of 1984 or 1985.

The spring before that summer, some friends that I made during my high school years at the Broken Arrow Community Playhouse (BACP) were putting on the show at the theater. They invited me to audition for the role of Stanley, who was Eugene’s (the main character) older brother, and I was cast in the part.

In addition to me being cast, some of my BACP friends were also cast: Lisa Petty, Tom Berenson and Susie Travis. The rest of the cast included Michelle Pond, Kathy Hullum, and Russell Rowe.

It was a super fun show.

Below are 2 videos. The first is the entire recording of the dress rehearsal. The second is that same recording editing just to highlight my performance. Nice ego, huh?
